Review: The Flying Apron

In an attempt to get out of the house more I decided this summer to be a tourist in my own province. One lovely Sunday morning I found myself in Summerville and took in the tides by Hobart Beach for a little bit.

This beach is not ideal for swimming and since it’s inland the air isn’t as cool as I’m used to growing up on the south shore but it was still a beautiful space equipped with a boat launch which was well used on this clear day for fishing.

We walked the length of the beach, enjoying the view and trying not to slip in the mud (it was a success) then afterwards we wandered into The Flying Apron for lunch.

The Flying Apron is located at 3 Summerville Wharf Rd in Summerville and is a peak local business. Everything they offer is in some way local from the food that comes out of their kitchen to the products they sell.

The menu is rotating depending on what is in season, I took in a pulled pork hash with a fried egg on top while my husband got a bagel sandwich.

We paired it with local beverages which was the hardest decision to make. Usually you go to a restaurant and you have maybe one local option (if you’re lucky) here you had your choice of TONS local Tidal Bay wines.

Along with the restaurant they have a used bookstore, bakery, art gallery and even offer cooking classes.

The meal was delicious and to end the meal we enjoyed a Moonmist ice cream (which is VERY iconic Nova Scotian) before heading home.

This is a wonderful stop to make when coming to the valley and I highly recommend popping in, even if it’s just for ice cream and a loaf of bread. (We got a sourdough while there- it was delicious.)
